I'm wondering the reasons why she wants a different phone for emergency calls if she has good cell coverage. Maybe one that's not battery powered if her cellphone battery is dead? Maybe because landlines work during power outages and cellphones may not if the towers are down or overloaded? But she may not realize a VOIP line not will work during a power outage unless it's on a UPS, and the UPS battery could die before the power comes back. Maybe to have a "house phone" for visitors who may not have their own phone (usually young children or some elderly)?Yeh, the interesting thing is that she has a cellphone that she uses all the time but wants another phone for emergency calls mainly. She thought it was a landline that she has, but it's a VOIP that uses her internet. We know that she has both wifi and cellphone wireless available on her cellphone but she doesn't understand it. So, get her a cheap VOIP with conventional handset to replace the $40/mo one she has so she feels secure.Use wifi assist on cell phone if poor coverage is the reason your friend keeps a landline.
I kept a traditional landline for emergency use at my old house that had very spotty cell service as well as frequent power outages, but was happy to get rid of it when I moved into town where cellphones work.
