Not many doctors take this Medicare/Medicaid anymore in the area; so forced to move to Advantage. What are the pro/con in this.
I would never sign up for Medicare Advantage unless I couldn't afford anything else. Most importantly, is that once you change to Medicare Advantage, you can't go back to original Medicare plus a supplemental plan without passing medical underwriting (where those with serious diagnoses in the past are not allowed back in).

I don't know if this is state specific or not, but at least in Michigan, Medicaid pays for the supplement plan premiums for a disabled relative and covers the out-of-pocket expenses (deductibles, adult diapers, Rx co-pays, etc) which is extremely important as the relative is subject to being transferred to another location by his guardian at any time. Without any limitations that he is locked into a specific medical group, he can see any new providers right after the move. (ie, PPO).

If Medicaid pays the premiums for a supplemental plan, there's no reason to drop that plan. And if an HMO accepts the patient, they will likely accept his supplemental plan too, except if they are Kaiser (who are providers as well as an insurance company).
