Investing - Theory, News & General • Can you train yourself to be less risk averse?

I am curious, are there ways to make yourself less risk averse to volatility risk?
Yes, easy. Take other kinds of risks. I mean, non-financial. Take up a fun and enjoyable hobby where your physical well-being may be at risk from time to time. You know, mountain climbing, cave diving, paragliding, or whatever. You'll quickly find that losing 50% of your savings in a market crash doesn't even register compared to that time you avoided death by a split second through your own wits/strength/experience/luck.

This is only partly in jest.

Stress/anxiety that people experience from certain kinds of situations, risks, or difficulties is all relative to the other stuff they have going on. People that have a generally very calm and controlled life may break down from facing even a minor difficulty like a delayed flight since they are not used to dealing with something not going as planned. Others live in warzones and function just fine in between bombs falling.
