As I approached retirement last year, I had big plans to simplify my portfolio. Instead I made it more complicated with a 30 year TIPS ladder (just couldn't help myself). However upon retirement this year I do have a simplification plan: a) consolidate my 401k at Vanguard with everything else b) fund the initial years of retirement my selling off some straggler taxable investments. This will get me to pretty much a 3 fund 60/40 port + TIPS plus a couple of things like Berkshire Hathaway with very low cost bases. As the TIPS mature I'll likely roll into a TBM fund. My goal is to gradually simplify.
