Fidelity’s incompetence led to real consequences and damages for customers. Other banks/fintechs were hit, too, but Fidelity stands alone in the severity of its response. Either they were hit the hardest because they were easier to exploit, or they were attacked no harder than the others but the only way they knew to combat it was in such a crude way.How can we be sure that Fidelity’s response doesn’t make sense? Maybe the fraud attack was really bad, or really sophisticated, or somehow supercharged by AI or social media in an unprecedented way. I assume Fidelity has smart IT and fraud prevention folks working there.It seems that Fidelity got targeted by a gang of crooks, and overreacted in ways that don't make sense…
