Investing - Theory, News & General • Retirement target in terms of VTI units

Can you explain the above? It seems to me that "booms" are better than "crashes" to reach our "target" faster.

For example say I want save 2.8 million today to retire. Looking at VTI, it is trading at 282, so I need 10k units of VTI to achieve 2.8M. Now if I just set my goal in terms of 10k units of VTI, then if VTI crashes I would be able to get there faster.
Only if it goes back up again.

10k shares trading at $141 is not 2.8 million dollars
