I had read that, but for example:Southwest has all the rules and procedures: https://www.southwest.com/airfare-types ... away-plus/
This isn't just one flight segment, and the video (on Southwest.com) for standby (vs. change, since I didn't see a video for change) seems to have various qualifications for carry-on, no connecting flight, etc. So I'm trying to verify whether same-day change for connecting flights works, as of midnight the day-of-flight in the same timezone as the first departing flight. Maybe I missed it but there's not much discussion of connections. I anticipate a very brief window of internet access for attempting to make a change before the first flight so I'm trying to anticipate any anomalies before encountering them. For same-day changes, on your day of travel, if there's an open seat on a different flight on the same calendar day as your original flight and it's between the same cities, you can book a confirmed seat on the new flight free of airline charges.
