Personal Investments • Transitioning to part time: what multiple of X?

It's always situational, but if you are able to work part time and pay most if not all expenses (basically stop saving) you can go on for the rest of your life that way. You are FI when your intellectual capital and future earnings are considered, just not quite ready to never work again especially if you are married/have children which adds some more volatility and might make you less willing to take risk than if it was just yourself. Most of us would not want to do something that forces a spouse or child into the safety net if our plans don't go as we expect.

You mention practice so maybe you are a physician. That really adds to the dimension of situational.
Yes, surgical specialist. If I retired completely and needed to go back to work after several years it would be a challenge. Recently divorced, no kids, in all likelihood won't get married again so it's just me.
I mean, it depends. Would part-time work cover your living expenses? How long until you retire & have to live fully off your investments?
Yes, the part time income would cover all my living expenses and I could still add some money to my investments, just not as much as I do now.

Time until retirement is flexible. I enjoy my job but I enjoy my free time too, so if I can find a good balance maybe another 10 years or so which would put me at early 50s. I have some back problems which may speed up the timeline, but I have sufficient disability insurance for such a scenario.
My advice is as follows: Contact Mark Zoril at Planvision for a very low cost 2nd opinion. Don't even think twice.

Get another set of eyes on your situation; with what you are describing I just have a feeling that a second opinion would really help you out.
