"Betrayed" - 1988. On DVD from the library.
Costa-Gavras directs Debra Winger, Tom Berenger, and Ted Levine in a preposterous story about white supremacists in rural America.
Two excellent performances by Winger and Berenger, who create real characters, are lost in the bizarre plot (written by Joe Eszterhas, a notoriously uneven screenwriter) that makes the various twists and turns of the story unbelievable. You want to see it to see Winger's excellent portrayal of an undercover FBI agent trying to infiltrate a heartland gang of neo-Nazis and losing her soul in the process, but it's just too strange. I can't really recommend it unless you're a huge Debra Winger fan.
