I have the same problem receiving QCD acknowledgements from some charities. Frustrating that they can't bother to take a small action since I gave them free money. As a result, I'm considering changing my cover letter to include something to the effect that "Unfortunately, since receiving a proper acknowledgement is an IRS requirement, I'll be unable to continue to contribute in the future if one is not received." There might be a more tactful way to say this, and I'd appreciate any helpful suggestions in that regard.I agree that the charity doesn't care about the statement, but you should photocopy the whole page before you tear off the check.
My point is that I have trouble getting charities to send me a proper QCD receipt. That would give the amount, confirm that I received no personal benefit from it, and that the check was drawn on a financial services company account, not from me personally. At least if you have a copy of the check, you have 1/3 of all that to take to an IRS audit.
Charities try to run the leanest operation they possibly can.
