Personal Consumer Issues • Give kids $100k for college and let them decide?

Bringing back an old post because I just perused it and learned/thought a lot about it. I totally agree that it's very situational and I'm not sure which poster said it but I agree that the responses reflect a lot of our life motivations/perspectives (way beyond the title of the post). The only thing that I'll add is to consider the rich Boglehead that has strategized and maneuvered to maximize college ROI, to find the goldilocks student investment, sheltered funds, optimized tax strategies but the student isn't properly involved in the thinking. Consider the stress that teenagers and upcoming students are under ... imagine the student that succumbs to that stress and chooses a really bad path/outcome while the parents are left moving chess pieces around. I'm all for empowering and activating our next set of leaders but let's not let them stress unnecessarily about "college costs" if the funds are there.
