Personal Investments • Making the decision to retire

I was just asking so that I could estimate my own expenses. I thought 7k is very generous estimate for base expenses without health care if real estate taxes and insurance are not outrageous
I downloaded my last 12 months of spending, took out travel and healthcare (as they are separate estimates), and added 10% as a buffer. I could easily subtract 10% instead if we needed to cut back for a while.
I do something similar. I add up all expenses other than travel, boating, medical, and charity. Those get calculated separately. I then take a 3 year inflation adjusted moving average and use that to project expenses forward.
