Does Ooma work with a TP Link Mesh system? How does it hook up?
"Ooma" doesn't care...

But what matters is what Ooma hardware you have, and what it needs.

It's been awhile since I've looked at their hardware choices... But the one I bought years ago didn't support WiFi, it required being "plugged in" to the router (IIRC comes with required cables). So long as your router (aka your "base" station for your TP-Link setup) has an open port, it should work fine. Even if newer versions support WiFi, it's arguably best to plug it in if you can.

The other piece as I recall is that Ooma also plugs into your "phone line" (once your phone line is discounted from the phone company). This is how it enables your phones to make/place calls (without having to buy new phones).

Combined, that means you'd typically locate the Ooma device somewhere it can be plugged into both your internet router (TP-Link) and your phone lines.

Of note, if you get your internet service from your phone company - aka DSL, that can create its own challenges. DSL works over your phone line. Ooma wants use the existing phone lines in your house to work with your phones. These can't co-exist (easily).

In our case, our internet comes from our cable company (comes in on a separate coaxial cable connection), not over DSL. So we had the phone company come out and "discount" their phone connection into our house - no disruption to internet, but obviously your home phones won't work when that's done...

Again, been a while since I set ours up, but IIRC once that was done we:
  • plugged the Ooma hardware in (power, network, phone)
  • setup from a computer (go to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and create/signin to account, setup billing/etc. if/as needed, enter your address for 911)
  • IIRC you get an immediate "temporary" number, so you can start using your "new" number right away (aka can pickup your existing home phone and make/receive calls - but initially with this "temporary" number)
  • Can enter your "number port" request, to transfer over your existing phone number (which could take days to weeks - most of which is not under Ooma's control, they are dependent on your existing phone carrier to "release" your number, which many try to delay as long as they can...)

Once setup, there's basically nothing to do... IMHO very simple.
