Ordinarily, I would disagree with this statement, but after having owned fancy rice cookers and finding them a pain to clean while also not very "controllable" compared to cooking on a stove, I'm now firmly in the camp that believes in using simple pots for everything. It's not so much about cost for me, as it is about convenience...I think it actually makes life MORE complicated, not less, as it is purported to.2 billion people make tea every day. They boil water in a pot or bowl. To pay that much for this simple service is ridiculous.
This is something to be sold not bought.
The same for to computerized rice cooker.
I too considered the Zojirushi for water and 2 things kept me away from it --
1/ I think it's lined with a non-stick coating and over time that is going to wear and I don't know what impact that has on the water.
2/ You still have to keep it filled and maintained. It's not like it attaches to the water supply and never needs maintenance.
(I wasn't even aware of the steam exhaust issue which would now be a 3rd negative. To get around that, I would need a small stool/table just for this.)
Every time I need hot water, I spend the 5 minutes to boil it on the stove.
