On the one hand, one doesn't know the future. During the worst of Covid, my neighbors had 24/7 in home care. That went on for over a year; the husband had dementia and his wife, though sharp as a tack was in a wheelchair. That's expensive. My aunt was sharp but in a wheelchair in a nice nursing home, but lonely so my cousins were able to afford a companion 10 hours a day.

On the other hand, it doesn't take a lot of money to make a difference. Buy sports equipment for a team, musical instruments for a school band.
