My Model 3 will do 0-60 in close to 3 seconds, and from 40 or 60mph will be into triple digit speeds in not much more than the blink of an eye. Yes, the car has incredible stability and electronic controls. But I can 100% see how the many young kids who are drawn to this car can get into really horrendous accidents. It also doesn't feel like it's doing all that much. No noise. No shifting. No loss of traction.a driver would need to be quite wantonly reckless to get in trouble with a tesla or other high powered electric cars.
it's not speed potential alone that's the danger. the difference is the smooth power delivery of the drivetrain, much superior traction control, and that many of them are AWD (easier to package using small electric motors). the acceleration is meted more predictably.
with a conventional drivetrain, you stomp on the throttle, the transmission might hesitate and then snap into a downshift, power might delay and then suddenly surge when the turbo boosts, etc. and all of this is often delivered into just the rear wheels. the unpredictability makes acceleration more unmanageable.
finally, back in the previous eras, tires were also quite terrible.
