Crazy stock market run-up means your net worth went up.For those with a tendency toward negative thinking: "time heals all wounds". I'm retired 14 years and my net worth/investable assets are greater than the day I retired. We own our own home mortgage-free, have no revolving credit card debt, have 2 cars and travel. We have no pensions and have not worked since retiring. My guess is that many people here are going to wildly overestimate how much they need to retire.
But people in their 30s and below won't be so lucky. Far more headwinds in the near future. Rampant inflation and insane energy costs, bankrupt and unsustainable Social Security/Medicare, deindustrialization, mass unemployment, negative real wage growth, etc. etc. The picture is bleak, to say the least.
