I find I have to followup with charities and communicate with their contact person to ensure that the stock gift goes through to their broker.
And if the gift is designated for a special purpose (earmarked for an individual project/category), then then the charity's own stock gifting form should have a line item to describe the earmarked project/category. If they don't have that line on their gifting form, then I will include a separate letter where I state "this gift is for project/person _________".
If there is no designated gift purpose, by default it's just going to go into the charity's general fund.
