Then there is much of the financial industry that lives off of unnecessary fees. And if that isn't enough, you have the tax code. There's a lot to learn in order to have financial sense in this world.
When I showed my kids the same stuff that they bought before X'mas can be purchased at 50% off after X'mas, they stopped buying most of the X'mas present before X'mas. In my daughter's case, she bought X'mas present at after X'mas sale for the following X'mas. Ditto for Halloween costumes.
