Seems like the process changes from year to year. My first adventure, it was only possible to sell by shares, not a dollar amount and there was a low of down time and moving around time. It took me two withdrawals to get to the right amount because mutual fund shares are sold at the end of the day (after closing).
I think the next time I tried, I was able to sell a dollar amount, not a certain number of shares and it worked better. There were still several steps involved.
I've always found Vanguard's brokerage platform processes to be complicated and confusing and mistakes pretty easy to make. But I don't have anything to compare it to other than the mutual fund platform was was very simple and straightforward (almost idiot proof).
