+1 to Chevy Chase, especially for families; Friendship Heights and Bethesda are similar: convenient for getting to downtown DC without the hassles of Georgetown (super touristy, constantly traffic-choked, not convenient for Metro, the buses are often slower than walking because of traffic) or the Convention Center (certain parts can be sketchy). You might check out the Embassy Suites in Chevy Chase. It sits on top of a metro station (just a couple of stops past the National Zoo) and it's not a long journey into the city. Spent a few weeks there while my spouse was recovering from a major surgery. Within walking distance of a Whole Foods, various shops, and reasonable places to eat.Not the OP but this is a relevant thread. Traveling with three kids so a suite is necessary. Narrowed it down to an Embassy Suites. Convention Center or Georgetown. Been looking at google maps but wondering if anyone has insight/experience. Have a ton of IHG points but suites look doubtful in city with that brand.
