Before helping a parent (or anyone else) update any beneficiaries, be sure to understand the overall estate plan. You definitely don't want out of date beneficiaries (for example to an ex-spouse, a relative who has passed away, etc). But you also don't want to accidentally undo estate planning with beneficiary changes.
