Berkshire has done just fine.
Of course, you can move the start date around and get whatever result you desire. But, Buffett holding a lot of cash has not been much of a problem for holders of Berkshire.
They do have an unusually large amount right now, though, and it’s not a mystery why. It’s not market timing. It’s risk management.
I’ve held some cash and bonds the last few years, and my portfolio has lagged the US market. Berkshire has matched the market, more or less, while holding a lot of cash. Kudos to Buffett.
