Just tell your kid that you plan to pay for college, so there's no point in her applying for aid. Then you can both save the trouble.

It's not a requirement to attend school, but it is a requirement to get any kind of aid. Even Academic or sports scholarships want you to do FAFSA to make sure you aren't getting grants first.
Not necessarily. Most academic/merit scholarships do not require information from FAFSA. A few do. You can easily find from the web sites of the colleges your children apply to whether that particular school requires FAFSA. None of the 12 or so schools my kids applied to required it.
All the schools in Utah have. I guess check with where you are applying.
