We spend winters in Florida and have many friends that have established Florida residency. Most are retired or semi-retired. It sounds like they have saved more on Florida property taxes than they have on income taxes because property taxes can only go up 3% annually on homesteaded property. This was huge when property values doubled a few years ago. Some do not spend 6 months in Florida due to other travel but are careful not to spend 6 months in their home state.
