I know this is a very general question, and I don't mind if I get pointed to the Dummies version somewhere.
My job is probably going to disappear this year. We have 4M in investments. Mostly Vanguard funds. All 401K and Roth. (Just been forgetting it and letting it be.) Another issue, being from the UK the investment structures here are very different and I've not had time to look into them. (Lazy.)
We get by day to day on my wife's pension and my current salary, 100K.
(At some point I'll get a pension mixture from SS and UK. We'll get by comfortably. No issue.)
However, and I will ask for a portfolio review separately. I was reading a basic investment article that suggested with a 4M portfolio...7% could generate $280K a year, 4% could generate $160K a year etc.
Then when I look at our investments...the dividends are @ $50K a year?
I know I'm not understanding about investment returns and growth.
Hence my question.
