I do it differently and do not specify income related to the US interest in my federal tax forms. In my state tax forms one of the schedules has the line for "Federal interest and dividends exempt from state taxation" where I enter Federal interest and dividends, and it gets deducted from the total state tax. I calculate Federal interest and dividends in a separate spreadsheet.
