If you have a local airport that can do the Global Entry interview, I would go Global Entry every time, even if you think you won't travel internationally. It's just nice to have.

Some fancy credit cards will reimburse you the Global Entry/TSA Pre costs.

If you are near Canada, get NEXUS instead (as it includes Global Entry); if near Mexico, get SENTRI, as it is the same. Both help on land ports, which global entry doesn't.
Nexus also lets you enter Canada on a boat and check in via cell phone Nexus interviews were quite difficult to schedule. We were luckily able to do both canadia and usa interviews during a single layover in Toronto.
