I have not seen similar projections from anyone I respect. I keep up with the public discourse around investing and retirement. Who are you listening to, specifically, that is saying this? Current 30 year safe withdrawal rates, achievable with TIPS alone, is around 4.5%. It isn’t what I would do with my money but it has to create a floor for reasonable discussions.
Seeing a ton lately about how expecting 7 or even 5% real will be a pipe dream moving forward and that one should plan for anywhere from 0-3% real and that the 4% withdrawal rate will have a higher rate of failure so one must plan between 2-3% SWR. I basically see a lot of investors who have accepted that and simply go 100% into VT and assume 3% real returns and 2-3 SWR while focusing on savings rate
