Market timing ie dramatic changes of their asset allocation is beyond the capabilities of most amateur investors and classically ends in tears
An investor should have arrived at a reasonable estimate of their ability to cope with market volatility during their accumulation phase having experienced some market ups and downs
This the “safe” time to do this as recovery is possible because investor is still in work and can hopefully recover from any investment errors
This acquired information sets the investors chosen asset allocation that they can live with through market ups and downs
It is important to get this asset allocation right in calm waters ie during accumulation phase because after retirement there is no way back and a 100% success rate is mandatory
