I'm a long term customer of AT&T. Ignore the automated email. It's never accurate since its NOT taking into account any credits/discounts.
I upgraded 3 of 4 iPhones on my account a few months ago with Costco and it all worked out once the credits/trade-ins caught up. It usually takes 2-3 months and they will credit you any missed monthly credits.
