The Illinois governor had this to say "“These increases are predicated on catastrophe loss numbers inconsistent with the Illinois Department of Insurance’s analysis, indicating State Farm is shifting out-of-state costs onto homeowners here,”State Farm has a separate entity for California so call your agent back and ask why they are lying to you.
Here in Illinois, State Farm has hiked homeowner's insurance 27%+ along with auto and umbrella rates
when I called my agent to ask why, they said it is because of the situation in California
so we are paying for California's problems now
State Farm tried to claim it was because of severe weather in Illinois --but there is no historical data to back this up. Behind closed doors, insurance agents, like mine, are admitting that this is because of out-of-state issues being passed on to IL consumers
the governor added: "“Hard-working Illinoisans should not be paying more to protect beach houses in Florida.”
Now I don't know how it all works within State Farm between the state divisions, etc. --but I do know that weather didn't suddenly get 30% worse in IL last year
