Personal Finance (Not Investing) • parents want to help me buy a house

Accept it right away with gratitude and graciousness. Don’t think about it too much or the opportunity might drift away.

I say this having turned down parental gifts on principle. Long term, that can be a pretty expensive principle. You work, you’re in a field known for layoffs, at least you’d have a home. Plus your parents would feel good knowing they helped.
+1111111. THIS! I do alright on my own (40 yo, 1.2MM), but if my parents offered to pay off my house or something similar (which they never would), I would accept that in a heartbeat lol! I say this as not being ill intentioned, but I know my parents would just want to help me out and pass on a legacy while they're still alive. My mom would do this if she could afford it.

I hope I can do this for my kids one day.
