easier said than done. If it is English Ivy it will take a lot of work. We have a lot in various parts of our property. Mature English Ivy leaves are hard to kill even with Round Up. They have waxy leaves and the Roundup doesn't penetrate well. Young leaves are light green and don't have the waxy coating. So what I do is string trim the Ivy to the ground and wait a couple of weeks or so for the new leaves to emerge and then hit it with Round Up. I add a tablespoon of surfactant to the water/RoundUp mix so that it helps stick the solution to the leaf. What am I missing? Can't you just dig them out of the ground and pull off the house?
Phragmite has a similar problem and only responds to Rodeo in the fall for some reason.
