We Roth convert to achieve a specific AGI, then spend from the Roth.
That is too straightforward for many people to grasp! :)

But provided that one is old enough and also eligible to make Roth conversions
We are over 59.5. I'm not sure how one would not be eligible to make Roth conversions.
withdrawing from a traditional IRA and spending the money is the same tax as
converting from a traditional IRA, then withdrawing from the Roth and spending the money.
Consider that the amount coming out of the tIRA does not need to be the same amount that is spent. That means the first option could incur more taxes, since the unspent money will create taxable income (unless it's kept under your mattress).
We Roth convert as well, but since we bunch deductions we can do more Roth conversions in the years with higher bunched deductions. However, at the present time we do not need to withdraw from Roth IRAs since other income (such as social security & dividends) can pay our expenses.
We have no other income at the moment. We have no pensions and are delaying SS.
