Personal Finance (Not Investing) • How Confident Are You With Your Pension Being Around 25+ Years And Why?

I'm a Louisiana state employee and my wife is in academia. Her university retirement plan verbiage and terms are nearly identical to mine. Even though her retirement is under a different umbrella, they are essentially the same. They might have different managers but we are both public employees. I'm certain my pension will be there in 25+ years and I'm equally certain that hers will be, too.

Yes, state employees are more apt to discuss retirement (with peers) while academia doesn't. However, at home we absolutely discuss our employers' retirement plan terms, and our personal goals to retire. She had never thought about retiring any earlier than the maximum number of years to max out 100% until I came along and regularly discussed how I've been planning to retire at 51 y.o.
