OP, you mentioned you use TurboTax and if I remember correctly, the new version isn't usually available until sometime in November. At that time, many tax forms are missing/unusable, making it impossible to enter all your data. There will be weekly updates to the software as more bits and pieces are finalized. It could be late December before the new version of TurboTax is complete enough to give you your answer by which time it's a bit late to change your withholding.

I tried going this route one year when I needed a good estimate of my tax situation for the year by mid-December. As I recall, I ended up creating my own tax spreadsheet since TurboTax wasn't complete enough in my time frame.
