They always charge extra for not dropping it at the same location you picked up from. It’s your call but for $30, I would pay and not rent from them again.
Last evening I flew into an airport 100 miles from home. A few days prior I reserved a car from Hertz to be picked up at airport I flew into and returned to the airport in my town. Never mind why I didn't just fly directly home, long story.
When I picked up the car a rental agreement was emailed to me, showing the same charges I had seen when I reserved, for a total of $54.28. This is cheaper than an airport shuttle service and I was getting in too late for the shuttle, so I thought it was a great way to get home. The rental agreement clearly showed pick up in one city and return in the other.
The receipt I got today upon returning the car had the charges I expected, plus $30 "Intercity Fee." I don't think this is legit given the quote was for different drop off from the start, and different drop off is clearly detailed on the rental agreement.
I had a text chat with Hertz complaining about this and it was unproductive. I plan to dispute with my credit card. Unfortunately I used my Fidelity Elan 2% cash back card, which does not have a great reputation for being responsive on the customer service side.
Two questions: does disputing this seem reasonable? And, does anyone have negative experience disputing charges with Elan?
