Believe I saw it but remember none of it.Any Given Sunday - 1999. On DVD from the library.
Oliver Stone directs Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Dennis Quaid, Ann-Margret, Matthew Modine, James Woods, Lawrence Taylor, Jim Brown, and many more in this "inside football" drama.
Pacino plays a longtime coach of a struggling NFL (in the movie, it's the AFFL) team dealing with injury issues and a young general manager, the imperious business-minded daughter of the original owner who brought him in many years ago. Various typical crises arise. Foxx is the third-string QB who has to take over after the first two QBs go down. Success goes to his head, and he loses the respect of the team. But there's a very carpentered happy ending where he learns his lesson and starts playing as part of a team!
Charlton Heston plays the commissioner, and there are clips of the chariot race from Ben Hur playing during the serious talk the coach tries to have with the young QB. There a very experimental style of montage used in general, where some action is overlaid with images of other things. Not sure it works. The movie is overly long, and I think some of it could be cut without losing anything.
Not sure I'd recommend it, especially since there are actual games being played right now.
