Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Worth Hiring a Tax Expert To Mitigate Taxes Paid?

Well, I'd like you to hire a tax expert and report back. So far in all my time on bogleheads.org no one has reported on a tax expert that actually did anything that could not be done by the tax payer themselves. Of course, the tax payer has to read the Form 1040 instructions as well as IRS publication 17 and IRS Publications 590A and 590B and other IRS Publications.
I have used a tax expert for five years. She knows all the ins and outs of the federal and especially the state code. She just added another staff member who was an IRS auditor. When I started using her, we were filing in CA, IL and OR plus federal including rental properties. I have had audit questions from the feds and the state and she handles it all. I have done my own taxes in the past when it was simple W2 income plus investments but I'm not interested in rental depreciation, AMT, four agencies, etc. She provides notes each year on ways to optimize for the next year.
