Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Max 401k contribution question

Meh. I wouldn't ask. Anyone who wants to contribute the 415 limit is an outlier, and odds are that the person you speak with will have no idea what you are talking about. The plan administrator and maybe someone high up in benefits for a megacorp might know the correct answer. But that's not who you are likely to reach. But it might be entertaining for the forum so please do post what reply you get. :P

If your contributions are limited or are being returned, they'll let you know. You don't have to reach out.

One thing you could ask for is the plan document, where all will be revealed. They'll initially send you summary plan description, and then you should clarify that you want the plan document, not the SPD. It's a monstrous document, though.
I then probably won't ask, I just let them return if contribution is limited. (Same for my ESPP, the over-contribution limit will be returned).
