Yep, lots of attempts: Windows Future Storage (WinFS), Shadow Copy, File History, Resilient File System (ReFS). Of all of these ReFS showed the most promise and will eventually cause Microsoft to deprecate NTFS but that won't be happening soonFor a while Microsoft was creating a versioning in windows but they were never able to get it to work properly and was deprecated much to my disappointment.
There are filesystems that have the ability to keep multiple versions of a file throughout the day and are easy to recover from, but NTFS is not one of them
