Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Check My Math - Pay off Home or Invest

One day, we will say, "Back during the AI bubble, people posted here all the time about how much money they made by deferring debt repayment to invest in stocks. Not sure what ever happened to them."

Shelter is important. Some would say it's among the most important things in life. I wouldn't mess around with investing in bloated companies run by unaccountable executives appointed by even more unaccountable boards of directors while the bank still has a lien on my house. If I gambled and won, I would take my winnings off the table, celebrate with a nice dinner, then move on and never do it again, lest the house claw back its losses.

Full disclosure: Paid off my mortgage and begrudgingly invest in stocks, because what choice do we really have?

OP, I wish you all the best. There are a lot of ways to do the math on this, but I think the question is ultimately more about personal risk tolerance than anything you can divine with numbers.
