I’m getting close to retiring early, but given the risks and uncertainties of doing so (a combination of financial and non-financial), I might not want to totally and permanently quit my current job & career. Because there is no going back if I do. So I’d like to understand options and approaches that others may have used to ease gradually into retirement and/or “test the waters” without committing one way or the other.
Here are ideas I’ve come up with so far. Could you please let me know if you have any suggestions or additions?
1. Ramp down hours to 3 days per week. Someone else at my company has done this, so it’s an option.
2. Request a 6-month sabbatical. No one has done this in my company yet, so not a sure thing. If they support it, it would likely be unpaid (although I might be able to keep benefits).
3. Other???
