Exact same situation here, but i guess i was lucky in that the rate only went up 35%.We have a home insurance policy in CA from American Family Insurance through Costco. Today I received a renewal notice informing me that the current policy will expire and will be replaced by a new policy underwritten by their affiliate Homesite Insurance Company of the Midwest. The premium increased by 62.5% after various discounts. Has anyone else seen this? Any recommendations for better options?
I do suggest you read through the new policy because i noticed while everything was the same as the old AmFam policy, the new one added (by default) pet coverage and identity theft insurance.
Since we have no pets and have separate identity theft insurance already, i called up Connect and had them revise my quote.
So now coverages are equivalent to AmFam, just with a higher premium
.In summary, don't just renew blindly; understand what they're "renewing" with Homesite.
