Have you ever had a cup of coffee from a Peet's cafe? They brew it incredibly strong…
It is not actually brewed particularly strong— they just use medium-dark or dark roast beans, which sometimes are interpreted as tasting strong.

I’ve never had a bad cup of coffee at Peet’s, but due to their lack of light and medium roast beans (even what they call medium roast is medium-dark), I’ve never had a particularly good cup of coffee there either.

At least they don’t use darker roasting to cover the flaws of low quality beans, and serve coffee that tastes like burnt toast.

I believe Peet’s is now owned by Keurig Dr. Pepper.
