"No, MS would copy all my email onto their servers, and then take it upon itself to actually delete my own email from my own machine!"
I would never give Microsoft access to my personal machine. They are making it harder, but I only set up local operating system accounts.
I currently use the free Outlook on-line that I have had for years, but later this year I plan to transition to some other e-mail for better privacy (iCloud? Other suggestions?) I hate sending an email on some obscure medical condition and then getting bombarded with ads for drugs for it on my wife's Netflix account. I suspect Microsoft or my wife's gmail is reading them and then telling Netflix advertisers our IP address.
