Man, that's a tough one. For me, everything starts with the math training I got in college as an engineering student and the required Engineering Economics class we all had to take.
Otherwise, I read so much by so many, that all I can say is that each of those contributed in some way to how we put together our accumulation planning and, now, our spending plan. Even the bad ideas. Even ideas from so-called experts that contradicted each other. Even the ideas that have no bearing whatsoever on our situation. I'm not big on appealing to authority, but the writings of many authority and non-authority types along with my own judgment and analytical abilities are what got us to this point.
