I did one RMD manually and it went through OK...immediately. Balances changed in my accounts immediately.Hello Bogleheads,
Trying to do my 94 Year-old Mom's RMD and its getting on my nerves. All I want to do is take the RMD from her Rollover IRA
and put it in the same fund in her taxable account. I do this every year but this year it seems that it is not allowing me to simply exchange from
her IRA to her Joint taxable account in her and my Dad's name. Could it be because I have to put the money in the settlement account first and then into the desired fund? Just trying to avoid having to call VG on Monday. Thanks
I did a second RMD a few days later; it appeared to go through; I even got an electronic confirmation, but no change to the accounts.
I called Vanguard; they switched me to an RMD specialist who got it done promptly. He did not know why my attempt didn't work.
Bottom line: It pays to call...especially this late in the year.
