The time in this few decades to sell VGSLX was December 2021.. over $160 a Share. That was the time to scale out. It’ll peak again in 20-60 years. Very long cycles for some of these market segments.
Fast forward to today, and two things are apparent:
1. VGLSX has badly underperformed the total market over 2 decades.
2. The advice has now changed. At least one of those authors no longer recommends this REIT addition (aka tilt) and praises the simplicity of just buying the total market.
It’s frustrating that the advice changed, because it seems like good advice shouldn’t change so easily. And because I’m the one left holding the bag.
Can someone help me understand why the advice changed?
Should I follow the new advice and sell out of REIT, even though I’d be “selling low” relative to if I had just bought the total market index?
